Rhombus Power announces its Advisory Board
Board to include Alan Heeger (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry), Arno Penzias (Nobel Laureate in Physics) and Warren Stern (former Director of DNDO)
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhombus Power Inc., a Silicon Valley startup located in the NASA Research Park, today announced that Dr. Alan Heeger, Dr. Arno Penzias and Warren Stern have joined its Advisory Board. President Obama and his national security team continue to rate nuclear terrorism as a high priority threat to our homeland. At the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, in response to a question about his concerns over deteriorating US-Russian relations, he said, "I continue to be much more concerned, when it comes to our security, with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan."
"We are proud to be advised by such a stellar group," said Rhombus founder and CEO Dr. Anshu Roy. "With their guidance, we will rapidly enhance our low-cost, scalable, and proprietary technology platform for detecting sub-atomic particles easily and accurately."
Alan Heeger is a Professor of Physics and Materials Science at UC Santa Barbara. He won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2000 for co-discovering and developing conducting polymers. According to Dr. Heeger, "Rhombus' nuclear detector (Mercury) will make America safe from terrorist movement of fissionable materials. It is 10x more accurate than available solutions. Free of false positives that plague existing technologies, it is a breakthrough innovation."
Arno Penzias is a Venture Partner at New Enterprise Associates, a leading global venture capital firm. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1978 for co-discovering the cosmic microwave background radiation. Dr. Penzias describes the Rhombus platform: "Rhombus' product is unique in that it is the world's broadest spectrum radiation detector."
Warren Stern currently serves as Senior Advisor at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He was appointed by President Obama as Director of the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office of the Department of Homeland Security in August 2010.
