Revolutionary Elicina snail cream scores CNN Money feature
BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Chilean snail cream skincare company Elicina recently was featured in a CNN Money story highlighting the growing popularity of snail mucin, of which Elicina is the market leader.
The story, by CNN Money reporter Mark Tutton, details the rise of snail cream in U.S., explaining its origin in Chile, where it can be found in the U.S. and abroad, and differing predictions about how the snail cream market will grow. Tutton explains differences in the market for snail cream, highlighting South Korea, the U.S. and China.
"Snail mucin was first used in beauty products by Chilean skincare brand Elicina in 1995," Tutton wrote in the piece. "The idea came from snail farmers in the country, who claimed that scratches on their hands healed faster when they handled garden snails."
Snail mucin is the common term for the snail extract, found to contain nutrients like hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, proteoglycans and antimicrobial and copper peptides. These nutrients are common in cosmetics due to research shows how they benefit skin. Snail mucin is referred to as "snail secretion filtrate" on cosmetic ingredient lists.
Snail mucin is believed to have anti-aging properties, by way of an increase in production of collagen and elastin. These two compounds aid in repairing and hydrating skin. This concept is in line with the Chilean belief, and has been popular in Korea for decades. The recent growth of snail mucin in the U.S. and other countries begs the question: Will snail cream become a staple of the beauty and cosmetic industry in more countries?
Elicina products contain up to 80 percent snail mucin. Elicina offers hypoallergenic products that are safe for people of all ages. The line includes Eco Elicina Eye Contour Cream, Nourishing Cream, Moisturizing Cream and pocket versions of the moisturizing and nourishing creams.
"Being featured on a world-renowned news organization like CNN and CNN Money is a very exciting thing," Elicina General Manager Paula Bascunan said. "It's obviously a great way to help spread the word about our amazing products. They make snail cream in other countries, but none of them match the strength, quality and elegance of Elicina."
No snails are harmed in Elicina's mucin-harvesting process.
