CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The brick building at 217 North Graham Street in Uptown Charlotte was first erected and owned by Amzi Harman Turney, and his wife, Mary, in 1913. Only one owner later, at least two fires and even an airplane crash to its third floor, not much has been able to keep this building from thriving. Over the century, it has been home to many businesses: candy factory, ballroom, a newspaper and even a five and dime. But, today it officially stands proud and more alive than ever as the new home of one of Charlotte's most esteemed and breakout law firms: Sodoma Law.
Founder of the practice and Managing Principal, Nicole Sodoma, played a key role in revitalizing what is now known as "The Graham" - a three-story,18,270-square foot piece of historic Charlotte. "I am thrilled to show off this amazing piece of Charlotte history. Our little village worked tirelessly for the past 12 months to bring back the charm of The Graham while keeping its weathered brick walls and original hardwood floors to remind us every day how resilient we can be. It feels like this building was simply waiting for us. Standing the test of time, it is as unique and tenacious as the attorneys in our practice. We are honored to take care of it as it continues to take care of us."
Ratzlaff Construction brought "The Graham" back to life with extensive renovations. C Design and SGA/Narmour Wright Design formed the design team, transforming the two top floors, totaling 13,000+ sq ft, as well as a ground floor lobby into a gorgeous, smart and practical work space. Alison Volckens, Director of Workplace Interiors at C Design, "The design strategy embraces the historic character of the existing building while integrating and layering contemporary design elements that reveal the law firm's modern creative culture."
"Having restored the Walter Brem House on East Boulevard, followed by the G.G. Galloway House on Morehead Street, with the firm's growth – now 17 attorneys – we decided we were ready to make this mark. We knew we'd need to make the move to a commercial structure but still wanted to keep on that path of restoring historic Charlotte," said Nicole Sodoma. "The Graham was a true diamond in the rough, and the surrounding neighborhood has the same kind of "reach for the sky" energy that we embrace at Sodoma Law."
