Rev. Samuel Rodriguez Keynotes Roselló-Nevares' Inaugural Puerto Rican Governor's Prayer Breakfast
NHCLC President Encourages Attendees to be Light in the Darkness
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Feb. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC)/CONEL, today was the keynote speaker for Ricardo Rosselló-Nevares' Inaugural Puerto Rican Governor's Prayer Breakfast. Held at the Governor's mansion, the event was the first prayer breakfast of this administration, re-instating a Christian tradition established by Rosselló-Nevares' father 24 years ago.
More than 60 faith leaders including pastors, priests and heads of church organizations joined with the president of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, senators and house representatives in attending the Breakfast. During the program, the Governor provided updates on state affairs, recent legislation and administration plans and asked for counsel and prayers during a message that focused on people of all faiths joining together to re-build Puerto Rico.
Speaking prior to the Governor's speech, Rodriguez inspired attendees with a message based on his book, "Ser Luz," encouraging them to be the light of the world in dark times.
"We cannot deny we live in dark times…sin, immorality, moral relativism, infanticide, racism, false prophets, watered-down preaching, religious extremism, terror, violence, intolerance and disbelief are abundant," said Rodriguez. "People of faith are called to be the light of the world because when light stands next to darkness, light always wins."
In addition to Rodriguez, Monsignor Willy Peña from Santa Bernardita Parrish in Carolina, Puerto Rico, provided the invocation and Rev. Jorge Lucas Escribano, former Puerto Rico Appellate Court Judge, who is now with the Church of the Evangelical Missionary Crusade in San Juan, offered the benediction.
"Puerto Rico is now again Open for Business and Open to God!" said Héctor Albertorio, J.D., director for the Office of Third Sector and Faith Based Organizations at the Governor's Mansion.
Rodriguez is president of NHCLC/CONEL, the world's largest Hispanic Christian organization, which serves as a representative voice for the more than 100 million Hispanic Evangelicals assembled in over 40,000 U.S. churches and hundreds of thousands of additional congregations spread worldwide throughout the Spanish-speaking diaspora.
