Rev. Josephine Furlow is recognized by Continental Who's Who
DETROIT, April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Rev. Josephine Furlow is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional Member in the Field of Ministry. Furlow is currently ministering at the Unity of Redford church.
The religious institution and its staff offers a variety of religious services, as well as counseling services, and is located in Livonia, Michigan. She has been serving at religious institutions for many years, as it is her passion. She performed various roles at the West Side Unity Church, such as being an usher and serving as an assistant minister, from 1972 to 1978.
Although she is now in ministry full time, Furlow was an educator for many years. She retired from the Detroit Board of Education after 32 years of being an educator and a counselor at Central High School, Frederick Douglass High School, and Jackson Jr. High School.
Her work as an educator and a minister has gained her national recognition from various publications and societies. She was the recipient of the Educator's Achievement Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Service from the Booker T. Washington Business Association, the Detroit Police Department Citizen Academy Award, and received proclamation from the Wayne County Clerk. Additionally, she received the Ruth M. Mosely Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Urban Ministry from the Unity Urban Ministerial School, where she graduated from while going to school for ministry. She still currently serves on the board of Urban Ministerial.
To further her professional development, Furlow maintains memberships with the National Association of Professional Women, the National Sororities of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Phi Delta Kappa, as well as the Red Hat Society. She also serves as an inspector for the City of Detroit Election Commission.
Furlow graduated from Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, with a Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics. Some years later, she earned a Master of Education degree, with a focus in guidance and counseling, from Wayne State University, located in Detroit, Michigan. Furthermore, she attended school for ministry at the Unity Urban Ministerial School, also in Detroit, and the Unity School of Christianity in Missouri, where she became an ordained minister.
When she's not ministering, Furlow enjoys reading, shopping, and helping others in her spare time. She would like to dedicate this recognition in memory of her loving parents William and Precious Abshire, and her sister Dorothy Tolliver.
