WASHINGTON, May 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Last night, Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins was pleased to honor the Rev. James Robison, founder of LIFE Outreach International, with the "Watchman Award." The award was presented during the Watchmen on the Wall briefing, an annual conference sponsored by Family Research Council that has drawn hundreds of pastors to the nation's capital from 42 states.
For more than 40 years, Rev. Robison has delivered the Gospel to the masses -- first, through crusade evangelism and for more than 40 years, via television. He has preached in-person to more than 20 million people, with more than 2 million decisions for Christ. The ministry he founded -- LIFE Outreach International -- now focuses on television and mission outreaches, and more people are coming to Christ in a single year than in his first 20 years of ministry.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made in part the following comments in presenting the award:
"Long before meeting him, I admired James Robison for his effective ministry and his work in laying the foundation for the Moral Majority and what eventually became known as the 'religious right.' His ministry, LIFE Outreach International, is well-known around the world for saving the lives of more than 13 million starving children.
"Seven years ago, he called together a meeting of Christian leaders to once again address the moral crisis facing our nation. James knew that moving back into the public policy arena was risky because many of those who supported his ministry feeding children didn't care so much about the moral crisis facing the nation. When a leader stands up and begins speaking out about the choices that lead to destructive consequences both in our personal lives and to our nation, people don't respond as positively. Yet James stepped out to provide leadership to leaders.
"A watchman stands on the spiritual walls of our nation and declares what he sees regardless of the personal consequences. James is a watchman of the watchmen. He saw the need of our nation and he stepped out to provide the leadership that the evangelical community needed and we saw the results last fall. Since then, God has opened doors for him to speak not only into the life of the president but into the administration.
"We are pleased to honor him with the 'Watchman Award' for preaching the truth of God, extending the grace of God and for loving others and leading leaders.
"His outstanding demonstration of servant-leadership, is inspiring Christians across America to be salt and light and courageously advance faith, family, and freedom," concluded Perkins.
