Retired Congresswoman Diane Watson and British Filmmaker Present Town Hall Meeting Accusing FX of Misleading the Public with "The People v O.J. Simpson" TV Series
LOS ANGELES, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Last week, Retired Congresswoman and former US Ambassador to Micronesia, Diane Watson, and Award Winning British filmmaker, Joshua Newton, held a Town Hall Meeting in South Central, Los Angeles to discuss the OJ Simpson trial and the inconsistencies between what really happened versus FX's portrayal in "The People v O.J. Simpson."
Watson, Newton and a panel of experts addressed the meeting's 180 attendees about the public's misconceptions and presented evidence in support of Simpson's innocence deeming he was in fact framed.
The evidence presented, including autopsy reports pointing to two killers, missing phone records alleged to conflict with Marcia Clark's timeline, and more, provoked indignation in the audience at the Town Hall Meeting.
In addition, Newton presented two side by side images of OJ Simpson's white Bronco parked outside Rockingham hours after the murders. One image was a still from FX's "The People v.O.J.Simpson," the other was the actual photo shown in the real trial. The FX image shows the Bronco's front wheel sharply turned with its tire pressing into the curb, which was meant to paint the picture that Simpson came home in a hurry after committing the double-murders, while the real photo shows the front wheel straight on the white line away from the curb.
"Each image paints a different story," says Ambassador Watson. "And is merely one of countless misrepresentations made by the show."
Referring to the actor playing Cochran, a long time friend of Watson's, Watson adds, "The TV version comes across as undignified, unlikable, and obsessed with using the race card to secure an acquittal - but that's not how he was and that's not what happened. The jury gave their verdict based on the evidence - nothing else. And if anyone wants to say differently I suggest they read the actual trial transcripts. There has been a massive misrepresentation of the truth, but fortunately things are about to change and the truth is about to come out," says Ambassador Watson.
After a two-year exhaustive investigation into the case of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, Joshua Newton has written a conspiracy thriller feature film titled "The Framing of O.J.Simpson." "The Framing of O.J. Simpson" is in pre-production and will begin shooting this Summer for release in 2017.
Mr. Newton produced a 3-minute teaser for his film.
