ReSyn Biosciences Receives New Product Award Designation at SLAS 2015
JOHANNESBURG, March 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
ReSyn Biosciences, a start-up biotechnology company specialising in high-performance high capacity magnetic microsphere products, was awarded a New Product Award (NPA) at the Society for Lab Automation and Screening (SLAS) conference and exhibition in Washington DC, Feb. 7-11, 2015. Unusually, the designation was awarded for the entire MagReSyn® product range rather than an individual product.
The annual SLAS conference and exhibition awards the NPA designation for new products that have the potential to impact the fields of laboratory automation, screening and drug discovery. According to Dr Justin Jordaan, CEO of ReSyn Biosciences: "The high-performance MagReSyn® products are capable of significantly expediting research by not only providing the best performance for automating routine workflows, but the high-content products provide solutions for potentially problematic samples containing large quantities of target biomolecule, enabling new automated platforms for discovery and purification." The products are developed from a proprietary microsphere technology platform, the subject of an international patent application, developed by Dr Jordaan and his team.
Product data in support of the award, demonstrating product quality and utility in automation, included a recent scientific publication where MagReSyn® products were used for automation of mass spectrometry sample preparation, and are described as being 'excellent' for reproducible phosphopeptide enrichment (doi:10.1021/ac5025842). The comparative assessment of products concluded that MagReSyn® Ti-IMAC provided the highest reproducibility and best data quality for automated purification. The publication aims to improve inter-lab co-operation in discovery research by improving the reproducibility of sample preparation technologies. Further supporting information was provided in the form of scientific literature in collaboration with research and industrial partners, where the MagReSyn® products, played a key enabling role in automation for screening and purification. Dr Jordaan explained that "the company ethos is to provide advanced magnetic microsphere solutions and technologies for the most demanding scientific applications."
A total of 61 companies submitted products for consideration, with a total of four awards being conferred at this year's 2015 event. Other companies receiving an award were Sony Corporation, regenHU, and BlueCatBio.
"We are expanding the range of products and applications to include various further tools for automated sample preparation for mass-spectrometry, cell and molecular biology applications," concluded Dr Jordaan.
