Resurrection University and the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders partner to prepare nurses for leadership through a master's degree presented in executive format
CHICAGO, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Resurrection University (ResU) and the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL) today announce a preferred educational partnership. The new partnership will allow IONL members to earn a Master of Science in Nursing in Health Systems Leadership at ResU through an executive format with discounted tuition rates. This degree will prepare candidates for a variety of nursing leadership positions demanded in the ever changing health care environment. The curriculum will also provide today's nurses with new competencies and a broader understanding of the vital role of nursing in healthcare reform.
Students will meet one weekend every three weeks on ResU's main campus in Chicago's Wicker Park. Additional coursework will be completed on-line. The program can be completed in twenty months. Resurrection University is believed to be the first university in Illinois to offer a master's degree for nurse leaders in an executive format.
"The degree and its unique format for the working nurse, for those nurses on the fast track to moving up in leadership, is for the nurse that wants to help shape the future of healthcare in acute care, ambulatory care, population health and the community," said Resurrection University President Beth A. Brooks, PhD, RN, FACHE. "IONL is the premiere organization for nursing leadership," continued Brooks, "It is the organization of choice for anyone who wants to be a leader in Illinois."
The inaugural class, beginning January 2016, is expected to be 10 students and will be organized in a cohort model, in which students remain together throughout the program. Curriculum will include topics such as human resource management, business communication, finance and economics, health care delivery systems, and advanced leadership. Courses will be taught by experts in the field, as well as University faculty.
IONL members will receive a 10% tuition discount in the program. Free parking is available on campus, and recommended hotels offering discounted rates may be available for nurses traveling from states outside Illinois for class which is held approximately once a month.
Interested candidates who are not currently members of IONL may join the organization prior to enrollment and receive the discounted rate. Proof of membership is to be provided when applying to ResU for the program.
