New Book Focuses on Engaging and Challenging Students K-6

The book features practical, use-it-now strategies designed to engage and challenge students in grades K–6.

All of the ideas and advice in the book are based on the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching. This research-based method of teaching provides practical strategies that raise educators' competencies. Educators will discover how to make lessons engaging through learning that is active, interactive, appropriately challenging, purposeful, connected to students' interests and strengths, and designed to give students autonomy and control.

The book will teach educators about: partnering and grouping students for optimum learning; using interactive learning structures such as Maître d' and Swap Meet to support active learning; integrating acting, drawing, debating, and more into daily lessons; infusing lessons with choices in what or how to learn to increase students' ownership of their learning; and incorporating student self-assessment tools to help children monitor and evaluate their own work.
