Responsive Classroom® Publishes Book for Special Area Teachers
TURNERS FALLS, Mass., Aug. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Center for Responsive Schools, developer of the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching, has published a new book, Responsive Classroom for Music, Art, PE, and Other Special Areas. It is the first-ever book from Responsive Classroom written just for special area teachers.
The book features many suggestions, tips, and examples, all gathered from experienced special area teachers who use Responsive Classroom practices every day. Educators will learn how to: open and close each period in a calm and orderly way; model special area skills, rules, and routines; use positive teacher language to help students meet behavior expectations and develop confidence; engage students more deeply in their learning; and respond to misbehavior from a teaching perspective that quickly gets students back on track.
The Responsive Classroom approach is now used in schools across the country and around the world, offering concrete practices that help children build academic and social-emotional competencies. These practices are ideal for time-pressured special area teachers because they blend seamlessly into daily teaching and help build the positive student-teacher relationships that are the foundation of joyful and productive learning.
"Special area teachers enrich students' lives in many ways—through their teaching in classes, collaboration with classroom teachers, and contributions to the school community—and they have been asking for resources on ways to adapt Responsive Classroom practices to their teaching for several years," says Dr. Lora Hodges, executive director at Center for Responsive Schools. "We are excited to offer a book specifically for these teachers so they can have more time to teach special area content while creating a stronger learning community."
Responsive Classroom for Music, Art, PE, and Other Special Areas is priced at $24 and can be purchased from Responsive Classroom: https://www.responsiveclassroom.org/product/responsive-classroom-music-art-pe-special-areas/.
