Responsible Wireless Use is Theme for CTIA-The Wireless Association® September Edition of "Wonder of Wireless"

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wireless technology provides numerous benefits for children and teens, including 24/7 connectivity to their parents and emergency personnel. This peace-of-mind for parents is one of the most often cited reasons why many give their children wireless devices. Yet parents want to know what the "right" age is to equip their children with mobile technology. In a CTIA-The Wireless Association® blog reader survey conducted in August, 37 percent of respondents said the best age group is teens 13 to 15 years old with 30 percent saying it was children 11 to 12 years old. Nineteen percent of readers said it was 10 or younger. To help keep teens and other drivers safe on the road, there are a number of apps available. In September's Wireless at Work, CTIA talks to Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse about an Android app that locks wireless devices when a driver is moving faster than 10 MPH. Hesse also talks about Sprint's support of programs and initiatives to promote safe driving.

Minnesota State Senator Mike Jungbauer is featured in our Industry Insider to discuss the appropriate and inappropriate times to use a mobile device and how regulation is needed to enforce distracted driving laws.

Wireless technology continues to evolve and offer new features, but it is vital that we remember to use our devices responsibly. In this month's Policy Point, CTIA provides tips for caring adults to educate kids on how to be responsible wireless users.

Finally, the September Wireless Lifesaver features store clerk LaJohnna Greenwood of Federal Way, Washington who saved a little girl that was abducted through the use of the wireless AMBER alert system. After contacting the police, the officers were able to use store surveillance tapes and credit card records to track down the man and safely return the girl home to her family.
