NEW YORK, April 22, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding sustainable solutions to inequality, intolerance and other pressing global problems will be the focus of the inaugural Responsible Leaders Summit occurring at the United Nations on May 1.
The Summit, which is an initiative of the Centre for Responsible Leadership, in conjunction with the Muslim World League, is bringing together more than 100 pre-eminent leaders from international politics, business and religion. The objective is to fuse interdisciplinary thinking into an actionable strategy for addressing challenges facing all of humanity.
"From economics to environmentalism to the basics of religious coexistence, we are seeing the virtues of responsible leadership under assault," said Bawa Jain, the Founder and President of the Centre for Responsible Leadership. "There is a gap in global leadership that we must immediately fill. It is time for responsible leaders in all walks of life to unite behind clear action plans for improving our world."
Five focus areas have been established for the Summit, which will take place in the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council at the U.N. Headquarters. They are:
- Restoring Civility to Public Discourse
- Addressing Economic Inequality
- Safeguarding Our Planet
- Uniting the Faithful
- Ensuring Gender Equality
"These challenges may be different, but they are linked in that real solutions to each of them depend on responsible leadership," said His Excellency, Dr. Mohammad Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and the Chairman of the Responsible Leaders Summit. "We need strategies conceived for the future and not only the present, forged out of conviction and not convenience, and designed to be constructive and not destructive."
David Gregory, the renowned journalist and former moderator of NBC News' "Meet the Press," will emcee the Summit.
Moderators include Robert Bazell, Professor at Yale University and former Chief Science and Health Correspondent for NBC News; Paula Faris, Anchor/Senior National Correspondent for ABC News, and Host of the "Journeys of Faith" podcast; and Cindy Leive, Senior Fellow at the University of Southern California's Annenberg Center and former Editor-in-Chief of Glamour Magazine.
