WALTHAM, Mass., May 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Respiratory Motion, Inc. today announced the CE Mark and full market release of ExSpiron™ for clinical use in CE countries, offering clinicians the only Patient Monitor Measuring Minute Ventilation.
"Clinicians around the world rely on Minute Ventilation (MV) to make decisions on the respiratory status of patients on mechanical ventilators. ExSpiron™ is the only medical device able to provide this measurement in a patient monitor, offering immediate insight into a patients' respiratory status than what is available in the market today", stated Jenny Freeman, MD, CEO of Respiratory Motion. "We are excited to bring Minute Ventilation Monitoring to CE countries with the goal of helping clinicians more rapidly detect the onset of respiratory compromise."
The ExSpiron™ was first introduced to the European medical community during presentations by key opinion leaders at The Deutscher Anesthesia Congress (DAC), the annual meeting of the Society of German Anesthesiologists held earlier this year in April. Findings from five studies using the ExSpiron patient monitor demonstrated enthusiasm in deploying Minute Ventilation Monitoring for better titration of opioids in PACUs and in General Wards, and to immediately see and respond to respiratory depression in patients administered anesthetics during procedural sedation cases.
"By showing each breath that is taken on a Minute Ventilation monitor, clinicians can immediately assess a patient's work of breathing, and identify at-risk patients and provide early detection of low minute ventilation. This can enable my staff to adjust opioid dosing and ensure optimal pain management." says H.A. Tillmann Hein, MD, Anesthesiology.
