Republican National Lawyers Association Files FOIA Request with FEC
Request Will Ensure Fairness, Transparency & Accountability
WASHINGTON, June 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) yesterday filed a request with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) for all correspondence related to any and all FEC business between Commissioners Steven Walther, Ellen Weintraub, Cynthia Bauerly and persons within their executive offices with any individual or entity outside of the commission from the date each commissioner took office to the present.
The RNLA's request specifically seeks records of all communications between Commissioners Walther, Weintraub, Bauerly and persons within their executive offices with any individual, person, representative or agent of so-called campaign finance "reform" organizations that seek to contravene and undermine the law of the land and the Constitutional protections afforded citizens and citizens groups guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
The RNLA filed this request pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and in response to a similar request made by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which sought information exclusively from Republican members of the commission and not any others.
"The Republican National Lawyers Association is filing a request for information to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability across the board," said David Norcross, chairman of the Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA). "Unfortunately, the actions of a third party group named the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which claims to 'ensure government officials – regardless of party affiliation – act with honesty and integrity and merit the public trust' have proven to be highly dubious and politically motivated. Therefore, we are acting to ensure any and all information about commissioners to the Federal Elections Commission that is made available to the public is complete so they can form opinions for themselves concerning the agency's work."
