Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) Receives "Mental Health Champion Award" from National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems
Award Recognizes Commitment to America's Mental Health
WASHINGTON, March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) was honored today by the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS) for his "outstanding legislative efforts to advance the quality and availability of mental health services in the United States." The award was announced at the NAPHS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
Rep. Murphy, who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Oversight Subcommittee, was recognized for his success in advancing major mental health reforms into law. Rep. Murphy spearheaded a multi-year effort to win bipartisan support for focusing attention on the needs of Americans with serious mental illness. Last year key provisions in the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, which he co-authored with Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), became law as part of the 21st Century Cures law.
