"For 20 consecutive months, the number of Americans going to work in the private sector has risen – 104,000 in the past month, a total of 2.8 million new jobs since early 2010. There are 125 million working Americans – but it is not enough.
"President Obama deserves credit for the turnaround in our economy since he inherited a situation where the nation had been losing 800,000 jobs a month. As he stated this morning: 'when I came into office, the U.S. economy had contracted by 9 percent ... the largest contraction since the Great Depression. ... A little over a year later it was growing 4 percent and has been growing ever since.'
"The public has to be asking how many more of the still-unemployed 13 million Americans would be working, and how much more our Gross Domestic Product would be growing, if the Congress would work with the President, turn from 'No' to 'Yes,' and pass the American Jobs Act.
"That is the turnaround our nation needs today."
Congressman Fattah is the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies.
