Rep. Fattah Says It's 'a Recovery So Good You Can Taste It' as Economic News Continues to Improve
PHILADELPHIA May 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "We're in an economic recovery so good you can taste it!" Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) declared today after joining other dignitaries to celebrate the opening of the new Tastykake bakery at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
The snack-filled ceremony in South Philadelphia came as more good news in the national economy pointed to steady recovery under the policies of President Obama implemented by the Democratic-led Congress.
"This is part of a bigger story, the rebuilding of our national economy," Fattah told the crowd gathered outside the new $78 million plant and corporate headquarters, an environmentally smart complex that becomes the largest LEED certified "green" bakery in the United States.
Fattah noted that Tastykake's chocolate cupcakes and other sweets have taken the Philadelphia company's brand worldwide, with fighting men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq looking forward to their snack-fix from home. Nobody has been baking better than Tastykake since it opened its North Philadelphia bakery in 1922.
The good news for Philadelphia's economy and a leading employer is not happening in isolation, the Congressman said.
Fattah pointed to a new report by the National Association of Manufacturers showing six of seven major economic indicators last week swinging into strong positive territory.
"This isn't just about the stock market," Fattah said. "The Gross Domestic Product, consumer spending and business inventory trends are all up-sides. And we're looking to this Friday's jobs report for more good news."
