Rep. Fattah Says Healthcare Reform Will Work, But Get Ready for Nonsensical Talk About Repeal

WASHINGTON, March 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) issues the following statement upon passage tonight by the House of Representatives of historic healthcare reform legislation:

"Today, America celebrates, and it's about time. Today, Americans move a giant step closer to better healthcare and to comprehensive reform of our flawed, dysfunctional healthcare insurance coverage system. We can all thank President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for their outstanding leadership in guiding this long-overdue reform toward enactment.

"Major provisions of this landmark legislation will take effect immediately upon the President's signature. But we need to brace ourselves for something else that will happen right away – a new round of attacks from Republicans.

"We'll hear from nay-saying, insurance-company-loving Republicans about how they will repeal this law. Don't believe it for an instant. These are idle threats, false and nonsensical. First off any legislation to roll back today's gains for comprehensive healthcare is a non-starter in Congress. And it's an impossibility if it were to reach the desk of this President, who was elected on a national mandate to reform healthcare.
