Rep. Fattah Says GM's Profits Vindicate Policies of President, Congress
WASHINGTON, Nov. 10, 2010 – Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), Pennsylvania's senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issues the following statement on General Motors' return to profitability with government backing:
"General Motors is rebounding, with $2 billion in third quarter earnings putting the automaker on the road to its first profitable year since 2004. Today's report once again vindicates the economic policies put forward by the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress. 'Bailout' may have been a dirty word in the past campaign, but the injection of government funds has proved to be a sound investment in our economy, preventing the collapse of a major American manufacturer while saving hundreds of thousands of jobs – with the prospect of full repayment in a matter of weeks."
