Rep. Fattah Hails Smart, Creative Plan by Carlyle to Save and Expand Sunoco's South Philadelphia Refinery
PHILADELPHIA, July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA-02), a member of the House Appropriations Committee for the Department of Energy, issues this statement:
"We in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Congressional delegation have been working hard to save the Sunoco refinery, protect hundreds of jobs and stabilize the energy security of the Mid-Atlantic region. Now we can taste success. The Carlyle group will take over this venerable refinery, expand production, save and create jobs, and keep Philadelphia as a hub for energy. The name of this creative venture tells the tale: Philadelphia Energy Solutions. Carlyle, Sunoco and the Steelworkers, aided by significant public sector involvement, are to be commended for sealing the deal.
"Today's agreement is the model for smart public-private-union cooperation. Congratulations to all the players – and there are many. Coming on the heels of the Delta-Conoco agreement in Trainer, that's two wins along the Delaware River, and two huge victories for the people, and the economy, of our region."
