Rep. Fattah Announces $837,303 Grant for Homeless with AIDS

WASHINGTON, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) announces that the Calcutta House Serenity Court in North Philadelphia will receive an $837,303 renewal grant to continue its supportive services and housing for chronically homeless adults dealing with chronic illnesses. The award comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOPWA program – Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS.

Serenity Court, at 1221 N. 19th Street, offers nine units of permanent housing to homeless individuals who are severely ill with HIV/AIDS. It is run by Calcutta House, at 1601 Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, which provides housing and other highly supportive services for people living with AIDS in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley.

"People suffering with AIDS, especially those who are homeless, deserve treatment and support.The Obama Administration continues to step up with programs such as HOPWA to meet that need," Rep. Fattah said. "I'm pleased to be advocating for this necessary assistance and to commend Calcutta House for serving this genuine need in North Philadelphia."
