PORTLAND, Ore., April 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As summer draws near and hotly anticipated sequels prepare to hit the big screen, Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), which precisely measures movies and TV everywhere, shows that worldwide box office totals for preceding films from this summer's sequel lineup have totaled over $7.2 billion in worldwide revenue with over $3.8 billion coming from outside of the United States.
"This summer's lineup includes nine films releasing their first sequel and it's interesting to see how well prior first sequels on this list have done compared to the original," said Ron Giambra Rentrak's President of Theatrical Worldwide. "With more than half of the total prior box office revenue coming from outside of the U.S. also shows the type of global appeal these sequels are capable of bringing to this summer's box office."
The charts below show the complete histories of success each of the summer sequel prior films have had.
