PORTLAND, Ore., June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for June 17, 2015.
Universal's "Jurassic World" broke the box office sound barrier this past weekend by claiming the biggest worldwide, international and North American debuts in box office history. The first movie to ever debut with more than $500 million, this latest "Jurassic" ruled the earth with a $524.1 million worldwide gross that combined a record $315.3 million internationally with a record North American debut of $208.8 million.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Warner Bros.' "American Sniper," now in its sixth week of release, maintains its spot at the top of the chart. Fox's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" holds strong in second place in its third week of release while Lionsgate's "The Duff" debuts strong in its first week of release landing at number three.
It's a "SpongeBob" world after all as Paramount's "The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water" takes the top spot on our DVD and Blu-Ray Disc sales list and lands in second on the rental chart. On this week's DVD and Blu-Ray Disc rentals chart, Jennifer Lopez in the campy fun of "The Boy Next Door" moves to the top spot after landing in second place last week.
Our Movies on Demand chart is led by Warner Bros.' comedy "Focus" starring Will Smith and "The Wolf of Wall Street's" Margot Robbie, followed by perennial favorite "American Sniper." Notably, Warner Bros.' sci-fi epic "Jupiter Ascending" starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis makes a strong second place debut on the DVD and Blu-Ray Disc sales list while taking third place on the Movies on Demand chart.
Once again Azteca America's "Futbol Liga MX" is number one on our top viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart followed by Telemundo's "El Senor de los Cielos" and their "Caso cerrado – Edicion especial" in third place.
For the second week in a row, our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts is led by VH1's "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta," followed by WE's "Braxton Family Values." Impressively, "Futbol Liga MX," this time on ESPN Deportes, takes the third spot.
On our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" got a little help from Cousin Sal this week, his Sanuk Commercial gained 314k+ views. NBC's "America's Got Talent" wished Mel B an off the chain birthday. A Facebook post wishing her happy birthday received 10k+ interactions. ESPN's "SportsCenter" uploaded a video of a basketball proposal. The video earned 160k+ interactions on Instagram--and she said yes.
