PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for Nov. 18, 2014.
"Interstellar" continued its solid orbit around the globe in 63 territories, topping both the international and worldwide box office charts for the second straight week as it easily eclipsed the $320 million mark.
Universal's "Dumb And Dumber To" easily topped the North American box office chart this weekend with an impressive and better-than-expected $36.1 million. This follow-up to the original "Dumb And Dumber," which opened on Dec. 16, 1994 with $16.4 million and went on to earn $127.2, gives Jim Carrey his best live action debut since 2003's "Bruce Almighty" and Jeff Daniels his best debut ever.
In DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales and rentals action, Disney made its mark in the sales chart with "Maleficent" and "Planes: Fire & Rescue" in the Top 2 spots, while the R-rated comedy "Neighbors" leads rentals for the second straight week. The acclaimed "Edge of Tomorrow," starring Tom Cruise, landed in the second spot.
Movies on Demand once again features two summer hits in the top spots, with "Maleficent" and "Hercules" leading the way, respectively. Digital movie purchases and rentals were led by the buddy cop comedy "22 Jump Street" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
The Nov. 2 episode of "The Walking Dead" engaged viewers on cable, while the Oct. 29 game of The World Series had the most social media activity across multiple platforms out of all broadcast and cable telecasts.
