PORTLAND, Ore., May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for May 6, 2015.
Disney/Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has assembled an amazing box office performance since its debut, grossing $664 million in 13 days of global release. Debuting at number one in every market since beginning its international roll-out on April 22, the movie has generated $459.5 million at the international box office overall. This week, Universal's "Furious 7," with a current worldwide gross of $1.429 billion, has become the fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide.
In North America, an astonishing weekend officially kicked off the summer movie season of 2015 as Disney/Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" posts the second biggest opening weekend in North America of all time with $191.27 million. In second place, Universal's April megahit "Furious 7" is still holding strong (considering it's in its fifth weekend of release) as it takes in another $6.1 million, bringing its North American total to $331.1 million.
Paramount's "Interstellar" maintains a solid orbit on the small screen again this week, taking the number one spot on our digital sales and rentals chart followed by Sony's "The Wedding Ringer," starring the ever-popular Kevin Hart, which enjoys a strong debut at number two. "Interstellar" also takes the number one spot in DVD and Blu-ray disc rentals and third place in DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales. Liam Neeson demands respect and takes names on both our Movies on Demand chart and DVD and Blu-ray sales chart as the third installment of the "Taken" franchise, Fox's "Taken 3," debuts in the top spot on both charts.
Telemundo's "La voz kids" tops our broadcast TV engagement chart this week with CBS's "NCIS" & "NCIS: New Orleans" coming in second and third place, respectively. Meanwhile, Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and Hallmark's "Good Witch" take the one and two spots on our cable TV engagement chart.
For the second week in a row on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, Spike TV's "Lip Sync Battle" was the top show. This week, Anna Kendrick's battle vs John Krasinski lead the charge with 3.7 million plus views. Grabbing second, NBC's "The Voice" reached out to its fans on Tumblr wanting to feature artwork for the following week's episode.
