Rentrak Announces Q2 2011 Domestic Packaged Home Video Rental Trends
--Home Video Rental Revenue Up Almost 6 Percent from 2010--
PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in multi-screen measurement serving the advertising, television and entertainment industries, today announced Q2 2011 trends for consumer spending on domestic packaged home video rentals. According to Rentrak's Home Video Essentials service, the category grew to $1.48 billion in Q2 2011, which was a 5.9 percent increase versus last year. Rental turns for the quarter were up 8.4 percent to $565.0 million. The growth was driven by the By-Mail/Online Subscription and Kiosk channels.
Commenting on brick-and-mortar channel rentals, David Paiko, Rentrak's Vice President of Home Video said, "While overall brick-and-mortar rentals declined, many of the larger brick-and-mortar stores average revenue per store increased versus last year; which indicates that the lesser performing stores are the ones being closed, and the remaining stronger performing stores are doing well. This news, combined with the announced plans for Blockbuster from its new owner, may mean a more energized brick-and-mortar rental segment for the second half of the year."
Rentrak also released the top-10 renting DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles in Q2 2011 for brick-and-mortar stores in the United States according to its Home Video Essentials service:
