This is a new position at Sovereign and represents a significant increase for the company's leadership role in applying, as well as making, novel scientific and technical advances to improve addiction and mental health treatment. Dr. Kumari is an undisputed leader in the psychiatric and neuroscience research fields. Dr. Kumari obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology from Banaras Hindu University, India, in 1993 before moving to the Institute of Psychiatry in London, UK to continue her research. She most recently served as the Professor of Experimental Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London, UK, where her research focused on the effects of psychostimulants, nicotine, anxiolytics and antipsychotics; neurobiological effects and predictors of outcome following pharmacological and psychological treatments in schizophrenia, neurobiological correlates of violence and addiction in mental illness, and personality and brain functioning. She has made significant contributions to the fields of neuroscience of personality and sex differences; cognitive psychopharmacology; information processing deficits in schizophrenia and their pharmacological normalization; neurobiology of cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis; and neurobiology of violence in schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder.

Throughout the course of her impressive career, Dr. Kumari has received various national and international awards for her research, including the Young Investigator Award from the National Alliance of Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, Senior Scientist award from the Schizophrenia Congress, and the Hans Eysenck Annual Scholarship award. She was awarded prestigious research fellowships from, BEIT Memorial Foundation and the Wellcome Trust, the British Association of Psychopharmacology Clinical Psychopharmacology Prize, and most recently the prestigious Humboldt Research Award in 2014, awarded in recognition of a researcher's body of achievements.
Dr. Kumari is an internationally renowned authority on cognitive neuroscience and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on measures such as electromyography, electroencephalography, neuropsychology, structural and functional neuroimaging and genetics. She has over 250 publications in reputed psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience journals, with a current H index of 60 and over 11,000 cumulative citations. She has also supervised numerous post-graduate and doctoral students, many of whom have published high impact papers and have procured academic or leadership positions at reputed institutions.
She has served as an editor or as an editorial board member for many journals, including Personality & Individual Differences, Current Psychopharmacology, Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, Schizophrenia Research & Treatment, World Journal of Psychiatry, Peer J, and the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry.
