WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Terry Gross, award-winning journalist and author, will speak at the 2018 NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She will address the conference on Friday, June 1.
Gross is the long-running host and co-executive producer of Fresh Air on public radio. With her distinct conversational style, Gross has interviewed guests ranging from politicians to cultural icons, encouraging them to reveal personal insights and candid truths about themselves and issues impacting the world.
Since 1987, WHYY-FM, a public radio station based in Philadelphia, has produced a daily, one-hour national edition of Fresh Air. The program is broadcast on nearly 600 stations, and it became the first nondrivetime show in public radio history to reach more than 5 million listeners a week.
Fresh Air with Terry Gross has received numerous awards, including the Peabody Award in 1994. Gross received the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Edward R. Murrow Award in 2003 for her contributions to public radio. In 2015, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In addition, Gross received the 2015 National Humanities Medal from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
"In a time when the idea of 'fake news' has permeated our society, journalists' mission to identify and amplify truth is crucial," stated Esther D. Brimmer, Executive Director and CEO at NAFSA. "With her poignant insights on current events and unique perspective into the minds of global leaders, I am confident Terry Gross will provide a captivating and inspiring narrative for our members."
Gross is the author of All I Did Was Ask: Conversations With Writers, Actors, Musicians, and Artists. She earned her bachelor's degree in English and MEd in communications from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
