Renowned Classical Guitarist Meets Today's Political Crisis Head-On With 'THE OBAMATRON'
Andrew Geddis, now an emerging author, issues wake-up call to the sleeping American electorate
NEW YORK, April 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Very infrequently does a work of literature so appropriately confront the issues of its day in such dramatic fashion as the timely and relevant piece by Andrew Geddis titled "THE OBAMATRON." Written as a provocative blend of political sci-fi and horror, it shows, with sometimes beautiful, sometimes fearful language, the dire consequences of an electorate putting all their eggs in one basket, so to speak. It brings to mind the language of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle," disturbing and unpleasant, unafraid to put on display every wart and blemish it finds in its world.
Holding no political affiliation, "THE OBAMATRON" exposes and lays bare the pure folly that accompanies blind devotion to a political ideology or faith in one imperfect and ambitious person, from whatever party. It opens in the year 2022, though mirrors the political atmosphere found in the run up to the election in 2008. As fiction, it has the prerogative to predict the outcome of the dynamics of today and to moralize on the motivations of the people of our world. While in the overt sense political, this piece also has the scope to indict the belief in the West of the superiority and supremacy of "reason" over faith and science over everything that is sacred.
As a testament to the desire for change that exists within the electorate, an excerpt from the story reads, "...and it seems, for the moment, that the country is off in a new direction; a direction that could lead, potentially, hopefully, to something resembling competent governance, where the wishes of the people are truly taken into consideration and their interests are defended without delay or contempt, where no war is launched based on the desire of a few greedy old men hell bent on sowing the world with confusion, horror and unspeakable destruction, where justice is realized and innocence upheld, something one might call, in a perfect world, national salvation."
Mr. Geddis has previously published two poems: "To a Chinese Girl" in "American Poetry Anthology" published by American Poetry Association in 1990; and "Penny's Poem" in "Best Poems of the '90s," National Library of Poetry, 1992. As somewhat of an artistic polymath, he plans in the future to return to his first inspiration, painting and drawing, a talent he developed while he was still very young.
