Reno Contracting Supports SunEdison on Solar PV Project at California State Prison
One of Five Solar Powered Facilities Expected to Save Taxpayers Millions in Energy Costs
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Reno Contracting announced today it has installed a 2.6MW solar photovoltaic project at California State Prison Lancaster, California, for SunEdison, a leading worldwide solar energy services provider. The single-axis tracker PV project incorporates 9,500 panels.
The Lancaster facility is one of five state prisons in Southern California that has added a combined 23MW of solar-generated power in 2012, an initiative undertaken by SunEdison and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). These solar projects should result in $55 million in energy cost savings over the next 20 years, according to the CDCR.
Reno served as General Contractor and despite high winds and heightened prison security requirements, completed the project in only eight weeks. This was nearly a 50% reduction from the original construction schedule. "Reno Contracting is proud to have built diverse solar projects for SunEdison over the past few years. Each project is aimed at creating more efficient and cost-effective facilities for commercial and government organizations," commented Reno Contracting President Walt Fegley. "And the fact that we were able to finish by our client's desired due date in spite of such a drastic schedule reduction shows the collaborative effort and commitment among the client, the subcontractor and Reno field personnel. Baker Electric and the Reno team of Project Manager Bryan McCarthy and Site Superintendents Steve Honn and Nic Marini worked together tirelessly from start to finish."
