Rendell Administration Recognizes Individuals, Employers for Outstanding Achievement at Blindness Awareness Expo

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Individuals and employers were recognized today for their achievements in overcoming challenges related to blindness and visual impairment through awards presented as part of the 3rd Annual Blindness Awareness Expo.

"The Blindness Awareness Expo is important because it helps educate the public and debunk the myths associated with the capabilities of individuals who are blind or visually impaired," Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito said. "The individuals and employers we are honoring today are excellent examples of what can be accomplished when you don't let loss of vision define how successful you will be in reaching your goals."  

During the Blindness Awareness Expo, young Pennsylvanians who are blind and visually impaired were recognized for their achievements in reading Braille; a worker was honored for obtaining a competitive job using services from a local Blindness and Visual Services office; and employers were recognized for hiring individuals who are blind or visually impaired and making their services accessible to individuals with vision loss.  

The event is sponsored by Labor & Industry's Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services and the Advisory Committee for the Blind of Pennsylvania.
