WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis., April 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Renaissance Learning (Nasdaq: RLRN) announced today that it has begun the development of an application to enable AR quizzing on mobile devices. Because of the expanding use of mobile devices in the K-12 market, the application will enable students to take AR quizzes on some of today's most popular handheld mobile devices.

The app will provide Accelerated Reader customers hosted on the Real Time platform with an option to take AR quizzes, eliminating the problem of students waiting for access to limited classroom computers. The app will maintain the integrity of the AR quizzing process by ensuring that AR quizzes are taken in a secure, monitored school environment, thereby keeping with the software's best practices and maintaining data fidelity.
"With more of these handheld mobile devices becoming a part of the classroom technology lineup, it's natural to provide enhanced access to the most widely used reading software in schools today," said Glenn R. James, Renaissance Learning Chief Executive Officer. "With over 1.5 million AR quizzes taken each day on the Real Time platform, we believe the new app will encourage students to read more and facilitate more efficient classroom work flow."
Accelerated Reader already supports AR quizzing on the NEO 2, a popular computer alternative with additional classroom-friendly features to accelerate learning such as writing, math facts practice, keyboarding, and classroom response capabilities.
More information about AR quizzing on mobile devices will be available in the Renaissance Learning booth at the International Reading Association Conference in Orlando, May 9-12.
