Remy International, Inc. to Supply Remy HVH410(TM) Electric Motors to Allison Transmission, Inc. for Use in Commercial Hybrid Truck Program
PENDLETON, Ind., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Remy International, Inc. and Allison Transmission, Inc. announced today the signing of a long-term electric motor supply agreement. This 10-year agreement will provide Allison with Remy HVH410™ electric motors to be used in the new Allison Transmission Commercial Hybrid Truck Program.
Allison's initial efforts are directed toward the use of hybrids in pickup and delivery, shuttle, utility, and refuse applications. Remy's patented electric motor technology will contribute greatly to the power and efficiency of the Allison Transmission Commercial Hybrid Truck Program.
"Our agreement with Remy was a very important step in our efforts to deliver the best performing and most economically viable hybrid truck solution," Allison Transmission CEO, Lawrence E. Dewey said in a statement. "Remy, like Allison, has a long history of engineering excellence and innovation. We are pleased to build upon our strong relationship with Remy as we provide a much needed hybrid solution for the commercial truck industry," Dewey continued.
The HVH410 is an advanced electric motor for medium duty, heavy duty and off-highway hybrid and electric vehicles based on Remy's patented High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) technology that provides dramatically improved motor performance and cooling effectiveness. The HVH410's world-class torque and power density allows for improved fuel economy, increased range in all-electric drive mode and the potential for a smaller internal combustion engine in hybrid vehicles.
"Allison continues to demonstrate they are an innovation leader in transmission systems for commercial vehicles. We have had the privilege of working with Allison on hybrid bus applications and are now looking forward to a long partnership in the hybrid commercial truck sector," said Remy CEO John Weber. "By utilizing Remy's technology expertise and long time experience in electric motors, Allison can focus their resources on the broader challenge of developing a world-class hybrid powertrain for commercial vehicles."
Both companies will be manufacturing in the United States. The Remy HVH410 electric motors will be made in Remy's Anderson, Indiana manufacturing facility. And Allison will be manufacturing the Allison Hybrid Truck Drive system in Indianapolis, Indiana.
