SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Remedy Informatics, the leading provider of registry-based clinical informatics software for healthcare delivery and life sciences research, announced that it will partner with researchers at the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children to build the first-ever oncology registry designed specifically for pediatric cancer research.

"The opportunity to work with an organization like Nemours is really quite exciting and moving," said Gary Kennedy, Founder & CEO of Remedy Informatics. "We are always looking to collaborate with leading minds and organizations. Nemours is a recognized leader in pediatric oncology research, and the expertise and knowledge they bring to this project will be invaluable. As a father and grandfather, this project certainly has special meaning to me because the focus is on finding cures and improved treatments for children impacted by cancer."
Remedy has developed a number of oncology-focused registries for other clients that will serve as the basis for this collaboration. All of Remedy's registries are built on its flagship Mosaic™ Platform, which offers the industry's most advanced clinical informatics solution. The Mosaic Platform delivers highly configurable, user-friendly registries that are designed to evolve with an organization's changing research needs without intervention from IT departments or outside technology consultants. The Mosaic Platform will enable researchers at the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders to rapidly broaden their impact on quality cancer care and allow clinical researchers to gain a 360-degree view of their research data. Clinical researchers and oncologists will then be able to analyze the data using powerful pattern recognition and data visualization tools to further their efforts to improve quality of care.
"Our commitment to deliver the best possible care to our young patients means we are always looking for innovative and effective solutions," said E. Anders Kolb, MD, Hematology/Oncology Division Chief at duPont Hospital for Children. "Our pediatric transplant group has had a positive relationship with Remedy Informatics, and after further investigation we could see that their registry technology was the right fit for our pediatric oncology registry project."
Earlier this year, the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders received a two-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to establish the Nemours Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP), only the second of its kind in the United States. The goal of the consortium is to bring together four Nemours sites and several cancer investigators in an integrated pediatric cancer network.
According to Dr. Kolb, this collaborative nature of the CCOP is one of its strengths, and "Remedy Informatics' platform-based approach makes sharing the data and findings between our institutions and researchers, spread across the country, much easier than we could have imagined. I believe this increased ability to share information will lead our researchers to make discoveries and develop new cancer treatments more quickly."
The project will also be funded by a Hope on Wheels® 2013 Hyundai Scholar Grant. Recipients, known as Hyundai Scholars, receive grants to pursue research and clinical programs aimed at improving the lives of children battling pediatric cancer.
"Our goal is to allow Nemours' researchers to focus on discovery without having to worry about or be hindered by technology. Our registry will help Nemours make new discoveries and provide more hope for those patients and their families affected by cancer," said Kennedy.
