RELM Successfully Completes Project 25 Compliance Assessment for KNG P800 Portable Radio
- Proven Interoperability on P25 Infrastructure of Four Competitors -
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RELM Wireless Corporation (NYSE Amex: RWC) announced today that its KNG P800 portable radio is Project 25 Compliance Assessment Program (P25 CAP)-validated on the infrastructure of four competitors, and has been included on the Responder Knowledge Base (RKB) website (WWW.RKB.US).
The P25 CAP is a voluntary program that allows P25 equipment suppliers to formally demonstrate their products' compliance with a select group of P25 requirements. The purpose of the program is to provide federal, state and local emergency response agencies with evidence that the communications equipment they are purchasing meets P25 standards for performance, conformance, and interoperability. The program is a result of legislation passed by the U.S. Congress to improve communication interoperability for first responders and is a partnership of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Command, Control and Interoperability Division, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, radio equipment manufacturers, and the emergency response community.
To assist the emergency response community with selecting interoperable communications equipment, DHS provides the RKB website; an integrated, online source of information on products, standards, certifications, grants, and other equipment-related information. Manufacturers must submit a Supplier's Declaration of Compliance (SDoC) and Summary Test Report (STR) for inclusion on the site. These documents provide a means of verifying that federal grant dollars are being invested in standardized solutions and equipment that promotes interoperability. Information on the KNG P800 portable radio and RELM's other KNG Series mobiles and portables is now available on the RKB site.
RELM's KNG Series portable radios are one of the highest specification radios available in a small light-weight package. RELM's KNG Series mobile radios provide industry leading features like full-color touch screen technology which improves the usability of the radio.
RELM President and CEO David Storey commented, "All radio system infrastructure equipment deployed today is provided by other companies. Therefore, for our sales efforts to be effective, it is important for potential customers to understand that our products will work on their existing system. Publication of the P800 on the RKB website helps in that regard by providing public safety users with independent and documented proof that the KNG P800 functions on the radio system infrastructure of competitors. We have also successfully demonstrated the performance of our KNG products in real-time on public safety communication systems in Florida, California, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana and West Virginia."
