Relay Foods to Showcase Local Food, Innovation at Tom Tom Founders Festival
Company to Sponsor Picnic Day in Lee Park, Participate in Talks at Festival Events
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Relay Foods, the Charlottesville-headquartered online food marketplace for local, organic, artisanal and everyday groceries, today announced that the company will participate in several events at the upcoming Tom Tom Founders Festival. A community celebration of innovation, the arts and creativity coordinated with Thomas Jefferson's birthday, the festival will be held this year from April 11-14 in downtown Charlottesville.
The Tom Tom Founders Festival features four days of innovation talks, block parties, concerts, pitch nights and creative expositions. Several Relay Foods executives are participating in Tom Tom events: Co-founder, President & COO Arnie Katz will speak on $10K Pitch Night on Thursday, April 11. Caesar Layton, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Relay Foods, will speak at a Tom Talk event, discussing innovation, local foods and changing business models that are transforming the way people access products.
In addition to executive participation, Relay Foods will support the festival's commitment to celebrating local foods by participating in several food-focused events during the week. On Saturday, April 13, Relay Foods will assist with curation of the "Tom Yum: A Field to Fork Expo," an educational expansion of Charlottesville's weekly City Market that will showcase local food producers. The company will also sponsor Picnic Day in Lee Park, offering for sale picnic baskets that contain top-quality local foods.
"Relay Foods is a natural fit for the Tom Tom Founders Festival," observed Zach Buckner, Relay Foods founder and CEO and a graduate of the University of Virginia, a festival partner. "The festival is about celebrating local products and sparking economic activity in our own backyard. Relay Foods is a local success story, having grown quickly to become a key player in the locavore movement while creating jobs here in Charlottesville and in the DC metro and Baltimore areas as we've expanded operations."
