Reimagine Well's Learn Guides Enable Enhanced Education Across the Cancer Journey
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "The educational tools we created in English and Spanish enable our patients and families to be guided during and after treatment by their original care team," said Alicia De Pazos, RN, Miami Cancer Institute.
Reimagine Well co-founder, Roger Holzberg often says that he felt drop-kicked out of the hospital after his cancer treatment was over. Handed a few sheets of photocopied paper, given a few words of encouragement, he was sent on his way. "Healthcare professionals are not able to be involved in the healing and wellbeing phases of the patient journey because to put it bluntly, they can't bill for it," he said.
To solve that problem the Reimagine Well Learn Guide team developed a platform that is segmented across the entire patient journey, from diagnosis to treatment, then on to healing and wellbeing. It gives the original care team the ability to be with patients and families virtually, helping them set achievable health goals 5 years or more after their initial treatment.
"When we were developing our new pediatric program at the Miami Cancer Institute we thought it was important for our bilingual patients to be able to get evidence-based educational material, delivered by their original care team, our local experts, on any smart device that they have. These guides are free to all of our patients and families and we hope they will take advantage of them," Marguerite Rowell, MSN, MBA, Vice President of Nursing, Miami Cancer Institute.
Studies have shown that Reimagine Well's type of interactive enhanced education has been able to reduce hospital readmissions and recurrence of some diseases.
Reimagine Well currently has an extensive library of patient requested immersive healing experiences, live events, and rich media learn guides that patients and families are able to share with one another and experience as a community.
