Reimagine Well's Infusionarium: "Like an Interactive IMAX Theater" in a Pediatric Hospital
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "I got to see the new Infusionarium at Miami Cancer Institute, on their pediatric oncology floor. It's like an interactive IMAX theater," said Ron Magill, Emmy award winning communications director for Zoo Miami. He made the comment as he was about to connect in a Live Event to a community of pediatric cancer patients in treatment at Infusionariums located in Miami, Tampa, and as far away as California.
Miami Cancer Institute had brought in Reimagine Well, not only to build multiple Infusionariums for their new cancer center, but also to survey patients on the places they believe would best support their healing. One of those places was an African Safari, an experience they can now do virtually anytime they want, and even theme their infusion room like a safari. But today, Miami Cancer Institute patients are connecting in real time, generously sharing their "healing place" with kids all over the country. "I can't take you all the way to Africa, but I will introduce you to some amazing animals!" Magill begins an incredibly animated Live Event that features an owl, gator, giant lizard, a talking parrot and huge boa constrictor."
"This is something that helps the children have less nausea during treatment. The families tell me their children want to come in to get their chemotherapy!" said Doured Daghistani, M.D. Medical Director, Pediatric Oncology for Miami Cancer Institute.
Former Disney Imagineer and Reimagine Well co-founder Roger Holzberg adds, "We helped the kids at Miami Cancer Institute form a Patient Vision Team to define their 'immersive healing places', and a Safari was just one of them. It's inspiring to see them share those places with pediatric patients in other parts of the country."
Reimagine Well currently has an extensive library of patient requested virtual reality experiences, live events, and rich media survivorship guides that patients and families are able to share with one another and experience as a community.
Dr. Daghistani adds, "They are not thinking about their chemo. We have had kids who are anxious, feeling sick, and after a few minutes in the Infusionarium they become happy, and they connect with each other."
Reimagine Well provides a proprietary platform and programs designed for chemotherapy, dialysis, physical therapy, assisted living, and radiation therapy; and has compiled an extensive library of immersive healing experiences and disease specific 'Survival Guides' hosted by renowned medical experts.
