SEATTLE, Oct. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- REI Co-op today launches Camping Project, an all-new product that enables users to search for bookable campsites and outdoor properties by location and nearby activities. This tool, available at REI.com/campgrounds, is the result of newly available campsite and recreation data from Recreation.gov, the trip planning and reservation service for federal public recreation areas.
REI members and customers can now search REI.com for more than 3,400 bookable campgrounds, cabins, and lookouts and thousands of other outdoor properties using Recreation.gov data. Users can also filter by activity to find hiking, mountain biking, trail running, climbing and backcountry skiing near each campsite. Data for nearby trails and routes is pulled from REI's Adventure Projects, online guides offering maps and resources to plan outdoor trips and activities.
REI will continue to add more functionality into Camping Project in the coming months. Users will be able to check campsite availability directly on the site and see photos, star ratings, and reviews.
For now, users will be directed to Recreation.gov to complete bookings. Recreation.gov underwent a complete overhaul in early October, launching a reimagined and mobile-optimized website that greatly improves the experience of booking federal campsites.
As the country's largest provider of outdoor education and experiences, REI offers classes, workshops, and community events for everyone from experienced adventurers to those new to the outdoors. Camping Project is just one more way to awaken a love of the outdoors and provide tools to make outdoor adventures more accessible. For more information on Camping Project, visit the REI Co-op Journal or https://www.rei.com/campgrounds.
