Regulated Online Gambling Winners and Losers Revealed in April
Online revenues maintain strong pace, up 11 percent year over year despite online poker's freefall
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- It's clear who the winners are (and who is losing) in regulated online gambling based on yesterday's report from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. Regulated online gambling (including both poker and traditional casino table games) collected $12.66 million last month, up from $11.42 million in April 2014.
- Big Winner: New Jersey Online Casino Gaming. Online casino gaming alone generated $10.7 million in revenue in April 2014. These numbers follow a historically profitable March 2015 and it appears legal, regulated online gambling in New Jersey is hitting its stride. Big Loser: New Jersey Online Poker. The slide to the bottom continues for legal online poker in New Jersey revenues in April 2015 dropped 24 percent compared to April 2014. If legal online poker ever returns to its previous form, New Jersey casinos will be positioned for massive revenue growth.
- Winner: New Jersey tax payers. Casinos offering regulated online gambling have generated a total of $26.9 million in taxes for the Garden State.
- Winner: Golden Nugget. Taking over the top spot for casino gaming revenue, Golden Nugget revenues jumped 10 percent from March 2015 to April 2015. Losers: Golden Nugget's win came at a price. Tropicana slid 10 percent during the same period and Caesars saw declines in poker and casino gaming as well.
- Holding Steady: Borgata. Despite revenues dipping slightly from March to April, Borgata maintains a firm grip on the overall revenue lead with $3.99 million in total online gaming revenue.
"Golden Nugget's strong performance proves that regulated online gambling provides an even playing field where operators can compete to offer consumers the best product, and reap the rewards for doing so," PlayNJ.com Spokesperson John Darr said.
