Registration Opens March 22 for CyberPatriot's AFA CyberCamps
ARLINGTON, Va., March 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association's CyberPatriot Program Office will open registration for the 2016 series of summer AFA CyberCamps on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
AFA CyberCamps were conceived to supplement CyberPatriot's National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which runs annually from October to March, and to allow educational institutions to engage students in cybersecurity education throughout the year. The AFA CyberCamp curriculum was designed to instruct novice students to learn about cyber ethics, online safety, and the fundamental principles of cybersecurity.
There are no age restrictions on the student participants in the CyberCamp program, but given the curriculum's targeted level of instruction, the CyberPatriot Program Office recommends camps recruit local 7th -12th grade students with little to no previous exposure to cybersecurity.
Eligible requesting organizations include AFA chapters, public and private high schools and middle schools, home schools, Civil Air Patrol squadrons, Naval Sea Cadet Corps units, scouting units, Boys and Girls Clubs, and, pending approval by the CyberPatriot National Commissioner, other non-profit educational organizations are encouraged to request and host AFA CyberCamps.
Hosts may request any of the following 2016 camp availability dates:
- Session A: June 13 - 17
- Session B: June 20 - 24
- Session C: June 27 - July 1
- Session D: July 11 - 15
- Session E: July 18 - 22
- Session F: July 25 - 29
- Session G: August 1 - 5
- Session H: August 8 - 12
Organizations are required to supply all computer and technical equipment, as well as staff the camp session with a qualified adult instructor.
