RedSky Technologies Issued Patent for Location Information Service
Technology is Key Element in Next-Generation 911 Networks
CHICAGO, June 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RedSky Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of automated E911 solutions, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has issued patent number 7,937,067 which covers RedSky's Emergency Location Information Service (E-LIS).
RedSky's E-LIS encompasses the architecture, process and system elements for receiving, storing and delivering the location data of any device on any network when the device dials 9-1-1. Described in the patent is the functionality of a Location Information Server (LIS), a network element that interacts with devices and other network elements to determine and distribute location data directly to or on behalf of a device that has dialed an emergency 9-1-1 call. The patent also describes a network actively engaged in determining the location of devices; translating geo-coded data (x,y,z) to geographic physical location data and providing that data in SIP signaling streams (PIDF-LO).
"This latest RedSky patent describes our method and system for determining the location of both mobile and non-mobile devices in emergency situations," says Jerry Eisner, ENP, RedSky's Group Director of Public Safety. "With 9-1-1 authorities and Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) operators focusing their attention on implementing standards-based NG9-1-1 solutions, this patent validates our belief that RedSky's Location Information Server will be an important component in next-generation emergency networks."
The E-LIS is consistent with and compatible to the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) 'i3' standard, the blueprint for next generation emergency services networks for public safety.
"This is an exciting time for the industry as we move to standards-based IP emergency services networks that can support 9-1-1 from virtually any device, says Tony Maier, RedSky's Chief Executive Officer. "These new networks bring the promise of higher productivity, lower costs and much better situational awareness for emergency service providers."
