Redfin Introduces Instant Push Notifications in Apple Safari in OS X Mavericks
Technology-powered Real Estate Brokerage Zeroes in on Getting Time-Sensitive Information to Homebuyers and Sellers Fast
SEATTLE, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Redfin, the technology-powered real estate brokerage (www.redfin.com), today released a new instant notification feature for Redfin website users on Safari in OS X Mavericks, the 10th major release of OS X. The new feature applies push notifications, a new addition to Safari, to important information about specific homes on the market and new listings to ensure Redfin users are quickly notified of any housing updates.
"The Redfin engineering team couldn't wait to get their hands on Apple's new OS X Mavericks. Of all the new features available, they zeroed in on push notifications in Safari, because it would let home shoppers get instant updates on homes, which gives them a leg up on the competition when it comes to touring a home and making an offer," said Sasha Aickin, Redfin's chief technology officer.
Now, Redfin users with Safari in OS X Mavericks will see updates at the top right of their screen regarding homes that fall within their saved searches. A message will appear when a home comes onto the market, when a home is sold or its price is reduced, or when a Redfin Agent leaves a Tour Insight on the home, which is a short note with the agent's thoughts about the home after they've seen it on tour.
These notifications appear even when Safari isn't running; when Redfin users are away from their computer, a summary of notifications will appear to show what they missed. This is a new Safari feature; push notifications were previously enabled in apps, but Mavericks will for the first time bring Web-based notifications to Apple's desktop operating system.
