RedEye: Workin' the Corner for 10 Years
Chicago's #1 media brand for young adults turns heads as it turns 10
CHICAGO, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- RedEye, known for its brief and clever take on news and entertainment, celebrates its 10th birthday with a month of events, promotions, and special features to commemorate the occasion.
Since its launch in 2002, RedEye has grown to become a media leader, serving consumers' needs through various platforms – a daily print newspaper for the urban commuter, a vibrant digital presence at redeyechicago.com, a free commuter utility smartphone app, and a vividly-stimulating, interactive iPad app, released earlier this year.
"I can't believe how far we've come – not only have we transformed with the changing digital landscape, but we have fostered a truly engaged audience through each medium," says RedEye General Manager Kurt Mueller. "That's what we're most proud of as we hit this mark – and it's just the beginning."
RedEye plans to celebrate the anniversary with month-long festivities for the people who helped get them there – its readers. Special features will pay homage to events of the last 10 years, and RedEye will invite readers to get their hands dirty with a Choose Your News(stand) Competition. The creative contest – details here - invites local artists/groups to decorate RedEye's newsstands under the #chicagoinabox theme, with a live voting event happening on October 30th, RedEye's actual birthday. That night, readers can also attend the RedEye Roast at the Laugh Factory, featuring local comedians and RedEye personalities, reflecting on 10 years through RedEye's unique lens.
To close out the celebration series, RedEye will throw a birthday bash on November 2nd at Riverfront Theater, with a surprise headlining band. The event – sponsored by Diageo and Anheuser Busch – will celebrate with special guests, clients, and employees. While the party is not open to the public, a limited number of tickets will be made available to exclusive RedEye fans.
