RedEye Launches Free Mobile App for Chicagoans
Dunkin' Donuts, Anheuser-Busch sponsor app with dining and drinks finder, CTA tracker
CHICAGO, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RedEye, a well-established media brand with commuters, is expanding its portfolio with its first mobile app designed to help city dwellers navigate Chicago from morning to night. Available free for both iPhone and Android, the app goes beyond providing the top stories in news and entertainment from that day's RedEye—it truly helps users plan their commute, find morning and late-night beverages, and even connect with fellow Chicagoans while on the move.
Sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts and Anheuser-Busch, the app features a Dining & Drinks locater that ensures users can find coffee on the way to the office, and a nearby bar or restaurant for beers on the way home from work. Commuters can also turn to the RedEye Chicago app to check real-time updates on CTA train and bus arrival times, set personal alerts for specific routes, and even call a cab with the push of a button in the taxi catcher feature. The Missed Connections section adds an interactive, social element by allowing commuters to connect with each other by posting or browsing messages about a would-be crush.

Anheuser-Busch signed on early as presenting sponsor in order to be integrated into the app design, allowing Bud Light bottle caps to be placed near select venues in the Dining & Drinks feature. "Sponsoring the RedEye app was a great way for us to reach adult consumers on their mobile devices, at the point of decision making," said Sean Lennon, Director, Busch Media Group. "It has also offered us a new way to promote our responsible drinking message using the taxi feature."
Those who download the free app from the App Store or Android Market before Aug. 31 can enter to win a RedEye 'On-The-Go' prize pack, including 300 dollars towards dining or drinks, three months of unlimited travel in CTA fare cards, and a RedEye swag bag.
