Redemtech Named First e-Stewards Certified Recycler in Canada
-- Redemtech Leads Fight Against Illicit E-Waste Exports Globally with e-Stewards Certified Locations in Three Countries --
COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Redemtech, a world leader in IT Asset Disposition, announced today it is the first company to achieve e-Stewards® Electronic Recycling Certification in Canada for its Guelph, Ontario, TCM Center – a key advantage toward helping Canadian and multi-national organizations ensure environmental responsibility and legal compliance.
Despite laws and international treaties that ban the export of electronic waste, or e-waste, from Canada to developing countries, this illicit trade continues to flow freely and devastate the environment in impoverished nations across Africa and Asia.
E-Stewards is a globally accredited, third-party audited program developed by the Basel Action Network (BAN), with support from environmental groups and industry leaders. Redemtech has chosen to pursue e-Stewards Certification because it is the only e-waste recycling standard that assures customers that no e-waste will be exported to developing countries as well as zero use of prison labor, landfills or incinerators for toxic materials.
"As Canada's first e-Stewards Certified recycler, we are uniquely qualified to meet the demands of government agencies and companies in Canada for e-waste disposition practices that meet the highest standards for protecting the environment and ensuring corporate social responsibility," said Kuljit Parmar, President, Redemtech Canada. "Our deep understanding of the Canadian marketplace and regulatory environment enables us to eliminate risk from the recycling process and deliver a solution that exceeds customer expectations."

Redemtech's operations in the U.S. and U.K. are also e-Stewards Certified, with the U.K. named the first certified recycler in Europe in September 2010. Redemtech Canada's Ontario TCM Center is also ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certified, while the British Columbia facility is in the process of completing these certifications and e-Stewards.
"These certifications demonstrate our commitment to serving large enterprises as a global partner that can deliver a consistent offering across borders, languages and industries that surpasses customer expectations and delivers on world-class standards of practice," said Robert Houghton, president of Redemtech.
"This achievement reflects Redemtech's long-term commitment to globally responsible electronics recycling," said Jim Puckett, executive director of BAN. "As the first e-Steward in Canada, Redemtech is ensuring the highest standards of environmental stewardship as it expands its global presence."
