Reddit Community Launches Snapchat Competitor For Gaming: Medal Clips
SAN FRANCISCO, July 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Redditors by the usernames /u/pdwitte and /u/mrgalkon launched a Snapchat competitor for watching game clips today. After going viral on Reddit the duo also let Reddit know that they funded it using the profits they generated from buying Ethereum in February. There are currently about 15 games on the platform, including Rocket League, Overwatch, Minecraft, the hugely popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Clash Royale.
With the multiplayer gaming and eSports scene growing massively, the amount of clips being produced is too. The Medal Clips team built an app that shows game clips from all over the internet and places them in Snapchat-like stories, so you can stay in the game wherever you go. You can get the brand new app at www.gomedal.com.
"As gamers, we watch a lot of gaming clips. But none of the platforms feel native to mobile, where in our opinion most gaming clips should be consumed, since it's a way of staying in the games you love, wherever you go," says Pim de Witte (/u/pdwitte), CEO of Medal, in their press release.
They decided to build it, and the result is Medal Clips, an app that was built purely for watching the best highlights of your favorite games - anywhere, anytime. It's like an infinite highlight video on YouTube, and it's really easy to lose a lot of time in the app. The Reddit community seems very happy with the result.
"It's kind of crazy. We raised $150k from investors in 2015. We then carefully burned through the money in 2 years by making a mobile game that didn't do well. Then, just because I had personally bought some Ethereum really early and sold it to pay our staff out of pocket, it gave us a second shot at success that funded the entire development cycle of Medal and got us to this point," says Pim de Witte
In one of their Reddit posts, Josh Lispon (/u/mrgalkon) mentioned that they have raised another investment round and will announce more information soon.
