BURLINGTON, Mass., April 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Scotties, a leader in the facial tissue industry, is pleased to announce the Grand Prize winner in their annual Trees Rock® video contest. After a national vote, the 5th grade students from Mazie Gable Elementary School in Red Lion, PA, have emerged victorious.
The school will receive $10,000 to use towards a sustainable project, such as tree plantings, outdoor classrooms, playgrounds, athletic fields, gardens, and greenhouses. All kids who entered the contest were required to create a video up to 3 minutes long on the importance of trees: to themselves, their school, and their community.
"Congratulations to Mazie Gable Elementary School on their big win," said John Robertson, Scotties Marketing Director. "We loved the creativity and character in their video and we are proud to know that thanks to these young environmental stewards their school can now enjoy an outdoor classroom."
Leading this project was teacher, Carrie Lankford who involved not only her class but eventually students from all grades. In their man-on-the-street style video, students of all ages throughout the school were interviewed and asked to share why they believed trees are so important. We believe providing this natural space for our students will enhance their ability to communicate, problem solve, think critically, collaborate, relax, connect with nature and one another, and become more curious to discover new things. We also know that we are building future stewards for our environment," said Lankford.
