Red Bull House Of Art Puts Fresh Paint On The Concept Of The Artist Collective
Eight Detroit Artists to Debut Eight Weeks Worth of Art
DETROIT, May 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Tonight marked the opening of Red Bull House of Art, a home and resource for local artists nestled in Detroit's historic Eastern Market. The gallery opening signified a three-year commitment to the artists of Detroit, offering the opportunity for nearly 96 local artists (roughly every eight to ten weeks) to create, explore and display without financial limitations or censorship. Detroit was selected as the first-ever U.S. location for Red Bull House of Art because of its creative energy and reservoir of talent. During opening weekend, the show will feature special expanded hours for local patrons and Movement festival goers to enjoy the gallery.

"Aside from the incredible amount of talent here, Detroit is the backbone of America and really deserves the recognition it never gets," said Matt Eaton, curator of Red Bull House of Art.
Patrons of Red Bull House of Art's inaugural gallery opening were ushered through raw, cavernous rooms that spilled into a renovated NYC-style gallery space, juxtaposing the building's history as a brewery in the 19th century with its recent reinvention. While fundamentally and artistically different, the eight artists work occupied the white walls with a sense of cohesiveness achieved over the past ten weeks of working together.
Whether it was Franklin Jonas' stunning laser-cut metal sculptures or Crystal Vinson's encaustic-infused photography; Matt Gordon's shadowy surreal world or Peter DeAngelo's vivid color palette; to Keri Mortimer's abstract take on industrialization and Ben Saginaw's pen-and-ink portraits; and back through Jeff Risk's symbolism and Mark Sarmel's character-driven world, each artist represented a wildly unique side of Detroit's vast artist community. All art featured in the gallery will be for sale through the duration of the exhibit.
The special expanded hours for the opening weekend of Red Bull House of Art gallery will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24 through Monday, May 28. Following opening weekend, the gallery will be open every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. New artists will be featured every 8 to 10 weeks over the next three years.
